Turmeric Tonic....O.M.G.

So I have been playing around {aka living} without a morning cup of joe for about 2 years.  Don't get me wrong I absolutely LOVE the tasty deliciousness of coffee, but it - and the caffeine - do not love me :( But, have no fear I have become quite the connoisseur of morning liquid concoctions from macaccinos, to he-shou-wu/dandy blend elixirs and my staple green tea matcha hemp milk lattes, but nothing knocked my socks off quite as much as the beverage I'm about to share.

heehee

But seriously.

One of the guest here at Finca de Vida, Astra, turned me on to this surprisingly AMAZING - and satisfyingly - frothy tea.   I never thought I could be so excited about a tea, but I have been literally raving about it for 2 days and I think she has the whole campus drinking orange.

Enjoy :)

Creamy Turmeric Tonic

INGREDIENTS 1/4 cup ground turmeric (essential that it is good quality!) 1/4 - 1/2 tsp. ground black pepper 1 tsp. + 1 Tbsp. coconut oil 1/2 cup water 1 cup tea of choice (I like Spring Dragon Longevity Tea or just a standard Chai) Non-dairy milk of choice or 2 T. of raw oats Additional spices or superfoods of your liking (I use maca, cinnamon, nutmeg, mucuna and goji berries for a bit of sweetness)

METHOD To make the turmeric paste: combine the ground turmeric, black pepper, 1 tsp. of coconut oil and the water in a pan.  Boil and stir continuously until a nice thick paste forms.  Remove from heat and once cooled, put in jar and store in fridge.  This becomes the key component to your morning elixir!

To make the tea:  combine 1/2-1 tsp. turmeric/pepper paste in a blender with your tea of choice and 1 Tbsp. coconut oil.  Add in oats, or a milk of your choosing and any additional spices or superfoods, if using.   Blend until frothy and creamy.  Strain thru a cheesecloth, strainer or nut milk bag if you want your drink super smooth, but I like mine thick and creamy :)

I swear it will rock your morning world - enjoy!
