Today is a good day for Good Bye

Today I bid farewell to Costa Rica {for now} and to my amazing home the past five months, Finca de Vida. I am humbled, amazed and forever transformed by my journey there. One of the simplest, and yet most profound and beautiful gifts I received, is the art of living in the moment. In simply just BE-ing. I have heard this SO many times and yet never truly grasped it. Now I totally get it. Life is in the moments when we are present – not in the fantasizing of the future or wishing of a past long gone.

Life is right now.

In light of this, as I re-enter our western world I decided to take the month of May sans social media. I have always had a love-hate with the amount of time and energy spent on my i-phone with unnecessary Facebook trolling or Instagram envy....perhaps you can relate ;-)

Spending the past five months literally barefooted, under the sun, moon and stars reminded me yet again that life is not found in the midst of selfies, check-ins or status updates. Life is what happens when we choose to put down our techy gadgets, look up and connect with those other set of eyes in the room that long for connection just as much as we do. This is life and I am tired of living in a world so ‘connected’ that we are so ironically and blatantly disconnected.

I don't yet know what the answer is or how yet I can successfully balance business and social media, but I do know we live in an age of so much input and my time so close to nature showed me how ready I am to let the output flow.  I've decided to spend these next few weeks unplugged so I can focus more on where I want to take my business {literally and figuratively} and also finally start the {cook}book I’ve always dreamed of.

As I embark on a few weeks of cyber solitude I leave you with the poem that I started all this with anyway and, in true poetic fashion, it could easily have been the epitaph to my Costa Rican adventures.

May the month of May be filled with all you'd like to see bloom.

For the Traveler

Every time you leave home, Another road takes you Into a world you were never in

New strangers on other paths await New places that have never seen you Will startle a little at your entry Old places that you know well Will pretend nothing changed since your last visit

When you travel, you find yourself alone in a different way, More attentive now to the self you bring along Your more subtle eye watching you abroad; And how what meets you touches that part of the heart that lies low at home

How you unexpectedly attune to the timbre in some voice, Opening a conversation you want to take in To where your longing has pressed hard enough inward, on some unsaid dark, to create a crystal of insight you could not have known you needed To illuminate your way

When you travel, A new silence goes with you, And if you listen, you will hear what your heart would love to say

A journey can become a sacred thing; Make sure before you go to take time to bless your going forth, to free your heart of ballast so that the compass of your soul might direct you toward the territories of spirit Where you will discover more of your hidden life, and the urgencies that deserve to claim you

May you travel in an awakened way, Gathered wisely into your inner ground; that you may not waste the invitations which wait along the way to transform you

May you travel safely, arrive refreshed, and live your time away to its fullest; Return home more enriched, and free to balance the gift of days which call you.
